INTERNET ACCESS

High speed internet access is available.  You must provide a laptop or other computer with a compatible networking card.  Don't worry, it's pretty easy.  Instructions on hooking up are provided in the condo.  Did we mention it's FREE?

Wired: Any type of computer with a standard Ethernet (network) card using an RJ-45 / CAT 5 / Standard ethernet plug - the network will assign your computer an IP address automatically (using DHCP).

Wireless: Any standard 802.11b / Wi-Fi / Standard wireless card will automatically detect and connect with the wireless network.

INSTRUCTIONS

Wired:

  1. Start with your PC turned off

  2. Plug the Ethernet cord from the back of the gray box into the Ethernet jack on your PC

  3. Turn on your PC and open your web browser

  4. Follow the instructions on your web browser, if necessary, to connect to the Internet

 

Wireless:

  1. Enable your wireless card

  2. Open your web browser; ie Internet Explorer or Netscape

  3. Follow the instructions on your web browser, if necessary, to connect to the Internet

 

Troubleshooting Wired Connection:

  1. Make sure you are using an Ethernet cable (not a phone cable) and that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the back of the gray box, into a slot labeled 1, 2, 3, or 4

  2. Make sure the gray box is connected to the blue plug on the wall (in the slot marked WAN on the box) and the power is plugged in

  3. Verify that your computer is configured to automatically get an IP address and DNS.  If not, please enable DHCP on your computer (see below ‘How to configure DHCP)

 

Troubleshooting Wireless Connection

  1. Make sure your wireless card and software are enabled and that they do not require a secured connection to work

  2. Make sure the gray box is connected to the blue plug on the wall (in the slot marked WAN on the box) and the power is plugged in

  3. Verify that your computer is configured to automatically get an IP address and DNS.  If not, please enable DHCP on your computer (see below ‘How to configure DHCP)

Call technical support at Resort Internet at 877-208-4141 between 8am and 8pm.  Identify yourself as Expedition Stations R-114.

 

How to configure DHCP

            Windows 95 and Windows 98

1.      Have your Windows Installation CD available as you may be prompted for it at the end of the configuration.

2.      Select Start > Settings > Control Panel

3.      Double-click the Network icon

4.      In the Network Configuration window click TCP/IP

5.      Click on the properties button to open the TCP/IP properties window

6.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

7.      Select: Obtain an IP address automatically

8.      Click on the DNS Configuration tab

9.      Click on the first IP address in the DNS Server Search Order field and click Remove.  Repeat this step until all of the IP addresses in this field have been removed.

10.  Click on OK.  Click on OK again.  You may be prompted to use your CD and then to restart.

 

Windows Me

1.      Select Start > Settings > Control Panel

2.      Double-click the Network icon

3.      In the Network Configuration window click TCP/IP

4.      Click on the properties button to open the TCP/IP properties window

5.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

6.      Select: Obtain an IP address automatically

7.      Click on the DNS Configuration tab

8.      Click on the first IP address in the DNS Server Search Order field and click Remove.  Repeat this step until all of the IP addresses in this field have been removed.

9.      Click on OK. 

 

Windows 2000

1.      Select Start > Settings > Network and Dialup Connections

2.      Double-click on the Local Area Connection icon to open the Local Area Connection window (or Wireless Network Connection if you are connecting wirelessly)

3.      Click on the Properties button to open the Local Area Connection Properties window

4.      Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) line

5.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

6.      Select Obtain an IP address automatically

7.      Select Obtain DNS server address automatically

8.      Click OK.  Click OK.  Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window

 

Windows XP

1.      Select your Start button > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections

2.      Right click your LAN (or wireless) connection and select properties

3.      Click on the networking tab

4.      Make sure that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked and highlighted, then click properties

5.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

6.      Select ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’  and ‘Obtain DNS server address automatically’

7.      Click OK on all opened windows and restart your computer if prompted

 

MacOS 8 and 9

1.      Go to the Apple menu (upper left of screen), select the Control Panel

2.      In the Control Panel, click TCP/IP

3.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

4.      To configure DHCP, select the option ‘Using DHCP Server’ under ‘Connect via’

5.      When you select ‘Using DHCP Server’ the IP address, subnet, router address, and name server address default to ‘supplied by server’

6.      Close the window to save the changes

 

MacOS X

1.      Click on the Apple icon at the upper left of the screen

2.      Choose ‘System Preferences’

3.      In the System Preferences window, click on Network

4.      Pull down the first configure menu near the top of the screen and select built-in Ethernet

5.      Make sure that the TCP/IP tab is selected

6.      Please write down any existing settings as you may need them to reconnect with your usual network

7.      Select the configure menu in the TCP/IP window and select Using DHCP

8.      Click on the Save button and then close the Network window
